For this tutorial you will be using your own color choices, patterns, etc. to create your own unique Frog Angel so that way no two are alike! Now how's that for being
creative? LOL
You will need to down load the zip file, which includes the selections for this tutorial. You'll need to unzip to your selections folder before beginning the tutorial. You may download the zip
HERE.
This tutorial was written under the assumption that you have a good understanding of PSP and that you know where many of the tools are located and how to change settings. Screen shots are minimal for
this tutorial.
Ready to have some fun? Ok, lets start by opening a new canvas 600 X 700.
Selections - Load from Disk - wings.sel, then flood fill with your choice of color. Do not deselect yet.
Add a layer (this is optional depending on the look you want). Select airbrush using these settings (or whatever you think looks good)
Size - 50
Hardness - 4
Opacity - 40
Step - 1
Density - 8
Lightly spray this around the edges of the wings and a few dabs in the middle of the wings. Do Not deselect yet.
Add another layer and select Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout. Once again, I'll give you the settings I used, but will leave the final setting you decide upon based upon your color choice for the wings.
Vertical and Horizontal - 0
Opacity - 42
Blur - 50
Color - Black
Uncheck fill interior color.
Now you can deselect and add a new layer. Select your drawing tool set to size 1 in the color of your choice (I selected a dark brown) and draw lines around the edges of the wings to make it look like big stithces. PLEASE NOTE: Stitching your wings is optional.
Merge these layers and rename this layer to "wings".
Now would be a good time to save your work.
Add a new layer and go to Selections - Load from Disk - head.sel, then flood fill with you choice of green. Do not deselect.
Add a new layer and apply a cut out. Once again, the cutout settings are entirely your choice. &nbshp; Here are the settings I used:
Horizontal and Vertical - 0
Opacity - 42
Blur - 30
Same color as before and uncheck fill interior color.
Deselect.
Deselect and add a new layer. There are a couple different options to choose when making your eye. You can select your shape tool and draw an oval, or what I chose to do was use my paint brush and drew the eye, then used the deform tool to get it the way I wanted it to look. I used black for my color choice.
Now we need to add a sparkle to our eye. Effects - 3D - Inner Bevel and use the standard PSP round preset. You should have a white sparkle to the eye now.
Now we need to add some dimension to the eye, so go to Effects - 3D - Drop Shadow. These are the settings I used:
Vertical and Horizontal - 0
Opacity - 100
Blur - 10
Duplicate this layer then Go to image and select mirror. You may need to move this eye into position.
There! Now you should have a face and two eyeballs staring at you! LOL
Add a new layer and go to Selections - Load from Disk - face.sel. Flood fill this with a different color. Do not deselect.
Add a new layer and select Effects - 3D - Cutout. Once again, play with the settings to get the look you desire. Here are the settings I used:
Vertical and Horizontal - 0
Opacity - 80
Blur - 25
Deselect.
Now you need to go back and turn off your wings layer. Making sure you are on one of the active layers for the head, click merge - visible, then rename the layer "head".
Turn you wings layer back on and now would be a good time to save, if you haven't already.
Now the fun begins. Time to add the dress. Add a new layer and go to Selections - load from disk - dress.sel. Flood fill with your color of choice of pattern. Do not deselect.
Before we go any further, we want to add a drop shadow to our dress. Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, using these settings:
Vertical - 1
Horizontal - 0
Opacity - 35
Blur - 5
Do not deselect yet. Add a new layer and go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout. Here are the settings I used, but once again, it is yours to play with based upon the color or pattern you selected.
Vertical and Horizontal - 0
Opacity - 42
Blur - 50
Deselect and add a new layer.
Now we're going to do some free hand drawing here with our drawing tool. I selected free hand line set at 1 using black as my color choice. Here is an idea of what you'll need to draw:

Now we need to kind of blur that line a bit, so I selected Effects - Blur - Gaussian Blur set to 5.00
Turn off the head and wings layers and make sure you have one of the dress layers active, then merge - visible.
Turn other layers back on and now would be a good time to save, if you haven't already.
Add a new layer and go to Selections - Load from disk - apron.sel. Flood fill with your color or pattern choice for the apron. Do not deselect yet.
Add the same drop shadow as we had done for the dress, then add a new layer.
Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout and once again, play around with the settings until you get the desired look you are wanting. Here are the setting I used:
Vertical and Horizontal - 0
Opacity - 60
Blur - 50
Same color as before and uncheck fill interior with color.
Do not deselect yet. Add a new layer and we're going to draw some lines as before to give definition to the "ruffles" on the apron. Here is an example of what we're trying to do:

Do not deselect yet, we need to apply the same Gaussian blur as before. Once again, you can play with the settings until you find one that works well with your choices.
Deselect & add a new layer.
Selections - Load from disk - belt.sel and fill with same color/pattern as used for main part of apron. Do not deselect yet.
Add the same drop shadow as before, then add a new layer.
Effects - 3D Effects - Cut Out, once again you can play with the settings until you achieve the look you like. I used these settings:
Vertical and Horizontal - 0
Opacity - 60
Blur - 20
Same color as before and uncheck fill interior color.
Deselect and turn off all layers exept the apron layers. Make sure you are active on one of the apron layers, then merge visible, turn other layers back on and save once again.
OK, now we need to give her some pants. Add a new layer and go to Selections - Load from Disk - pants.sel and flood fill with your choice of color or pattern. Do not deselect
Add the same drop shadow as before and then add a new layer.
Effects - 3D Effects - Cut Out, final decision is yours as to what looks good to you. Here are the settings I used:
Vertical and Horizontal - 0
Opacity - 60
Blur - 50
Same color as before and uncheck fill interior color.
Do not deselect. Add a new layer and get your drawing tool out once again. On this one you may need to zoom in to see what you are doing. LOL Draw lines something similar to what I have as an example:

Do not deselect yet. Go to Effects - Blur - Gaussian Blur and this time I used a setting of 1.00, but once again, you can play with the settings.
Deselect and lower the opacity on this layer to about 20 or to whatever looks best to you.
Add a new layer and select your drawing tool using a lighter or darker color to do some stitching. This is what you are aiming to do:

Turn off all layers except the pants layers, and make sure you are active on a pants layer, merge - visible. Turn back on the other layers and move the pants layer beneath the dress layer.
Time to save again!
Add a new layer and go to selections - load from disk - feet.sel. Flood fill with same color green as you chose for your frog head. Do not deselect.
Add a new layer and go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout. These are the settings I used:
Horizontal and Vertical - 0
Opacity - 65
Blur - 30
Same color as before and uncheck fill interior color.
Deselect, turn off all other layers except feet layers, then merge - visible.
Turn all layers back on and move feet layer beneath the pants layer, then save your work.
Whew! I hope I haven't lost anyone! LOL We're almost done!
Add a new layer, then Selections - Load from disk - arm1.sel, and flood fill with the same pattern or color you used for the dress. If you used a pattern, you may need to rotate the pattern settings a bit to make it look more realistic.
Add the same drop shadow but do not deselect yet. Here are the settings I used:
Vertical and Horizontal - 0
Opacity - 35
Blur - 5
Add a new layer and go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout, once again, playing with the settings to your liking.  :Here are the settings I used:
Horizontal and Vertical - 0
Opacity - 42
Blur - 30
Same color as before and uncheck fill interior color.
Deselect and add a new layer, then go to Selections - Load from disk - arm2.sel, and flood fill with same pattern/color as for other arm. Once again, you may need to rotate the pattern settings a bit.
Add the same drop shadow as you applied to the other arm, then add a new layer and go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout with the same settings as used for other arm.
Deselect then turn off all other layers except arm layers and making sure you are active on one of the arm layers, layers - merge visible.
Turn other layers back on, make sure arms layer is on top of apron layer and save your work.
Final part of our frog angel is the hands. Add a new layer and go to Selections - Load from disk - hands.sel and flood fill with same color as used for head and feet.
Apply the same drop shadow as before, then add a new layer.
Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout, and play with the settings until you achieve the look you desire. Here are the settings I used:
Horizontal and Vertical - 0
Opacity - 42
Blur - 12
Turn off all layers except for hands and making sure you are on one of the hands layers, merge - visible.
Turn other layers back on and make sure your hands are between the apron and arms layers.
YOU DID IT!!
Can you believe it? Here is an example of what a finished frog looks like at 50% reduction:

As you may have noticed, from the example at the top of the page, I had added some embellishments to my frog.
The posibilities and imagination is limitless and I'd like to see your decorated frog!
Click HEREto see how others have decorated their Frog Angels in The Frog Angel Hall of Fame.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Hall of Fame!!
